Painted Black

Today I painted the unit black. It is getting closer to ready all the time. Still need to finish the amplifier for the speakers and mount those in the cabinet.

Ready to Paint

Okay I've filled all the holes, glued up the corners and sanded the whole project down. That was a chore in it's own right. The project looks good and is solid as a rock. Going to be starting the painting today.

First Glue

So the centers to the letters didn't work out, they were not secure enough. But the names still look cool as they are so I've started assembly with wood glue.

Speaker Covers

Okay the routing of the speaker covers is taking a lot longer then I had anticipated. They say good things take time, so these ought to be splendid. I had to route the backside to insert a grill so i could have a way to mount the center of a few letters.

Speaker Covers Design

I thought it would be cool to have my daughters names into the desk, and what better place then the fronts of the speakers. So today I traced some foam bath letters.

Speaker Mounts Outer Shell

Today I fixed some errors with the backdrop and completed the outside shell for the speakers. The picture is of the shroud upside down and looking at the backside.

Built in Speaker Mounts Started

I got back to work today to start on the speakers. There will be six speakers in total, three on each side. the first task is constructing the boxes for each speaker, that's what's been started today.

Test Fitting on Desktop

I got the back cut out and put in (still needs some trim). Then i put it on the desktop to show how it will look.

Monitor Shroud Base Dry Fit

Today I finished off routing the Monitor Shroud, dry fit it together to see how it would look. It's upside down in the picture but that's just because i don't want to glue it together just yet. I still have to build the speaker isolation units and install them. also left to do is to cut out the back-splash.

Monitor Shroud Backdrop Supports started

Today I worked some more on the monitor shroud, I have been working with the router on the supports / speaker mounts for the monitor area. will provide a nice stable area in which to mount the monitor backdrop.

Speaker Prep Work

Today I am dismantling speakers from a past project to use in the monitor shroud. They are Altec Lansing 4ohm drivers originally from computer speakers.

Monitor Shroud started

Got some cutting done towards the monitor shroud, progress is slow but steady. Also picked up a can of plastic / wood paint to paint the inside of the unit black.

Desk Before Alterations

Snapped a pic of the desk before it was taken apart and retrofitted. Many plans to improve things like keyboard shelf and drawers. I have used the desk in this form for over a year.

Cat Bed with Storage

I made a smaller cabinet out of a junk bookcase and now it's used as a cat bed.

Custom fit Shoe Rack

Here is the custom fit shoe rack I built before Christmas. It was made entirely out of 1x3's. It was a good project to practice using the router as I used every router bit (that I have) at least once.

My Cordless Screwdriver

This is my jobmate cordless screwdriver, it's very small and portable.

My Cordless Drill

This is my BMR cordless drill. It is quite handy and can go pretty much anywhere.

My Angle Grinder

I have a jobmate angle grinder. it's very loud and very fast, cuts through metal like butter.

My Dremel

My dremel is a King Canada rotary tool with a flex shaft attachment. Very good for small detail work.

My Router

I have a 1/4" shank plunging router by TMT. It's pictured here mounted in my router table.

My Corded Drill

I have a Concept branded corded hammer drill, the hammer function makes it easier to drill through metals and other hard things.

My Circular Saw

I have a Jobmate 7 1/4" circular saw, it's very good for working outdoors and is quite portable.

My Palm Sander

I have a mastercraft mouse style sander. It is very good for finishing sanding and getting into tight spaces.

My Jigsaw

I have a Jobmate jigsaw. I is very versatile for cutting holes and odd shapes.

My Radial Arm Saw

My radial arm saw is the workhorse of my workshop. This model was built in 1976 for Craftsman, It is a very strong unit and will surely be able to do allot of cutting jobs.

My Router Table

Here is my router table I built a a few months ago, it does a fine job. The cabinet was salvaged and reused to make this router table, it has two fences and storage under for things like router bits, wax and clamps.
